This is an alternative trek for the crowded Inca trail. Along the way passengers will have the chance to see snow capes, feeling close to the snowy summit of Salkantay, tropical fruit plants, farms, traditional andean communities and the inheritance of ancient civilizations. This tour along with Inca jungle trek is the perfect circuit to explore isolated areas and experience the essence of the andes in a traditional non-touristic way.
DAY 1: CUSCO – SORAYPAMPA
The group will be picked up at the hotels to travel by bus for 4 hrs. Later we will reach the town Mollepata, where we will get together with our horsemen and horses that are carrying the camping equipment. In this area it is possible to see the beautiful snow-capped peak of Salkantay. Afterwards we will hike for 4 hrs. ascending the mountain Saillapata, at this point we will have our lunch. After a short break we will walk until reaching our next campsite Soraypampa.
DAY 2: SORAYMAPA – CHAULLAY
Early in the morning will begin a 3 hours trek until reaching the highest point of our expedition, The Salkantay Pass (4 600 mt.). From there, we walk down towards Wayracpunku, to have our next meal. The journey will continue going into the high jungle where we will observe large trees with their arms stretching out over the streams, all filled with bromeliads and orchids. This trek will lasts around 5 hours to finally reach our camping site in Chaullay.
DAY 3: CHAULLAY – SANTA TERESA
After having a hearty breakfast, our trek will start descending through different ecological zones of nature, made up of a variety of wild trees, orchids, bromeliads, etc. This part of the trek is one of the most beautiful parts. After 5 hours of trekking, we will reach a zone called La Playa, where we will have lunch. Later our bus will take us for 45 minutes to the town Santa Teresa to camp. Along the way we will have the opportunity to visit the hot spring waters of Cocalmayo or just to explore the surroundings of town. At night we will set a bonfire with all the members of the expedition.
DAY 4: SANTA TERESA – AGUAS CALIENTES
This path is surrounded by abundant vegetation and impressive mountains, our next goal will be the Hydroelectric, where we will have lunch, and after a short break we will continue trekking until we arrive at Aguas Calientes town. You will be taken to your accommodation and at night we will all get together for dinner.
DAY 5: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO
We get ready around early in the morning to climb to Machu Picchu, the trek will follow an ascending path crossing the high jungle, and we could have the chance to see the spectacular sunrise. After passing the control entrance we will have a private guided tour for 2 hours in Machupicchu. Later you will be free to enjoy Machu Picchu on your own. in the afternoon, according to the departure of the train, We will descend walking to Aguas Calientes to catch the train back to Ollantaytambo where everybody will be picked up and transferred to Cusco. We have to be at least 30 min. before departure at the train station. The Salkantay trek finishes on the main square of Cusco.
